Quartier de Femmes 2023
What's there to laugh about in a prison context? This is the starting point chosen by Mohamed Bourouissa for his first stage creation. Prison as an outlier of society is a recurring theme in his work as a visual artist. The play plunges us into the daily life of a young woman who goes through the prison experience, allowing herself to be transformed by the touching and tender characters she meets there.
Based on workshops held in a prison, Mohamed Bourouissa aptly stages these women's voices, without pessimism or judgment. Using humor as a form of resistance and distancing from difficult contexts, the play, written by Zazon Castro, is universally moving. Going beyond questions of justice and morality, it is above all about accompanying a woman on her life's journey, whose moments of joy and difficulty could be our own. A one-woman show that thwarts stereotypes and plays down the subject in an unpredictable, funny way.
